Emotional Intelligence: Essential for Effective Change

One business relationship I appreciate most is the one with my HR business partner.

I cannot think of one major organizational change (or crisis) in which I led internal communications that my HR BP was not at my side helping me making stuff happen.

That’s why interviewed Nichelle Howe for my book on my proven 4Cs Change Communications Framework™ out later this year.

Nichelle has been counseling C-suite executives and leadership teams (including me) for decades. In our conversation I asked her, “what leadership skills are needed most in the 21st century workplace?”

This also requires courage to address disconnects within the organization, realign priorities, and make tough decisions when necessary. A leader’s ability to lead with empathy is essential for long-term engagement and reducing turnover.
  4. Emotional Intelligence: This involves not just understanding others but also regulating your own emotions. Leaders who have high emotional intelligence can adapt to changes, respond to challenges with resilience, and motivate others. When emotional intelligence is paired with professional intelligence, leaders can navigate change effectively and create a positive organizational culture.
